Hyundai Alcazar has been officially driven in as the company's fifth SUV in the country and only the first to offer three-row seating. Essentially based on Creta, Alcazar is also trying to create its own niche space in the Indian car market. And while there are some visual similarities between the two vehicles, the Alcazar is - quite obviously - bigger and gets a more powerful petrol motor.

Introduction

The latest Hyundai SUV to be launched in India, the 2019 Hyundai Creta, has been extremely well received ever since it was showcased in India. In fact, the company's own Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Hyundai India, YK Koo even has reportedly termed the new crossover as his best seller. The 7th generation of Hyundai's popular crossover has offered customers an unprecedented combination of ruggedness, styling, the Hyundai Excel-like driving dynamics, spacious cabin and everything else one can ask for in an SUV. Of course, Hyundai would like to see their sales improve significantly in 2021 after the most successful year for the company in terms of sales.

And while a diesel engine is more expensive than the petrol in the Creta, the gap is not that big, which makes it a good option for those who want a lot of space but want to save some money. The new diesel variant of the Hyundai Creta has received a middling reception in our country and some of you might be wondering why it is better than the popular 4X2 variant of the Creta. But, there is some good reason why you should consider the new diesel variant. While the Creta diesel comes in a 4x2 configuration, the Creta diesel is a 4×4 variant Variants and prices (ex-showroom, Delhi) Petrol Diesel Alcazar 1.6 Diesel Rs. 11.59 Lakh Rs. 11.94 Lakh Namratan 1.6 Diesel Rs. 12.65 Lakh Rs. 13.05 Lakh Vans Namratan 1.6 Diesel Rs. 12.65 Lakh Rs. 13.05 Lakh Santro 1.6 Diesel Rs. 11.49 Lakh Rs.

The Creta on the other hand, has always been the more powerful option in the sub-4 metre SUV segment. And while Hyundai has now dropped the 1.6-litre diesel engine in India, the 1.4-litre motor continues to power the SUV. But before we go any further, let's clarify that we are comparing the petrol variants of the car to the diesel options, that offer 10-horsepower and 15-horsepower more, respectively. Hyundai Creta And Hyundai Creta Diesel Now, that we have that out of the way, let's find out whether the diesel version of the Creta is worth buying over its petrol counterpart. Since it has been driven only in the city, we are not going to bother with fuel efficiency figures as we will leave that to the dedicated readers of CarDekho to do.

Conclusion

In our opinion, the Hyundai Creta is the best SUV to buy in India. It is available in both diesel and petrol version in India and is a very capable and versatile vehicle. Compared to the Creta, the company offers three-row seating on its SUV and even in its diesel version, the Hyundai Creta diesel is miles ahead of the Suzuki SUV in terms of practicality. If we were to get one of the upcoming Hyundai Creta Diesel in India, the main choice will be between Hyundai's diesel and the imported Maruti Suzuki SUV, namely the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. And it can't be over-emphasised that you are making a big mistake if you opt for the latter because for the money, the Creta Diesel is more than well worth buying.
