Audi A4 to offer next-generation Petrol and Diesel Engines

  • The new Audi A4 will be built on the MLB platform and will feature a hybrid powertrain.

The new Audi A4 will be powered with next-generation petrol and diesel engines. In an interview with Auto Express, Oliver Hoffman, Audi's head of technical research, disclosed that the new-generation petrol and diesel engines will have refined performance.

In that case, Audi A4's new generation ICE engines would be the last before the German luxury car manufacturer transitions to all-electric vehicles. These engines are said to be the most advanced Audi has ever released. More electrification is expected to be aided by these new petrol and diesel engines.

For standard vehicles, expect the new generation Audi IC engines to arrive with an enhanced 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The rear-mounted battery packs on the plug-in hybrid models will be larger. This is how the German luxury car manufacturer intends to bridge the gap between ICE and EV automobiles.

Audi has officially stated that the manufacture of its last new internal combustion engine vehicle would begin in 2025. By 2033, the automaker plans to convert its entire fleet to zero-emission vehicles.

Hoffman also stated that the next Audi A4 will be available before the year 2025. Along with the Audi A4, the new Audi A6 is expected to arrive around the same time. He also stated that the upcoming Audi A4 will be built on MLB rather than MQB architecture.

According to Hoffman, the possibility of an all-electric Audi A4 is not out of the realm of possibility. MLB architecture, on the other hand, will not support this. Instead, it could rely on the PPE platform, which was created in collaboration with Porsche. With the Macan EV and Q6 E-Tron, the PPE architecture will make its premiere next year. The release of an all-electric Audi A4 would, however, be delayed until the current ICE-powered A4 sedan is phased out.
